Stats thread killed because of FIFO unavail

This is being output: FIFO thread will exit due to the following error: FIFO fd has pending error

This happens usually when there is heavy load on IO on the system or when I heavily access the FIFO stats file during the stats write call.

I dont think the thread should be completely killed as it seems it is not started afterwards which means we are loosing statistics.
