v055u: slow connections or packet drops?
Last few days I have been experiencing repeated connection issues that seem to come and go.
Looking at the logs in the app reveals repeated text like the attached file. Unsure if they are related, but I definitely am experiencing elevated packet or data loss. I have tried a clean reinstall, reboot, and switching around the DNS repeatedly to different providers, but the only thing that fixes my issue is disabling the tunnel entirely.
I am able to access the Internet but only after a few attempts, it's like trying to access cell signal while moving in a dense forest.
I have checked and no other devices on the network are experiencing anything like this. I have not had this issue until a few days ago, I have changed no settings until today while I was trying to fix it.
I definitely am experiencing elevated packet or data loss.
- What is Configure -> Network -> Choose IP version set to?
- Have you turned ON any setting in Configure -> Network, if so, which ones?
- Have you changed anything in Configure -> Anti-censorship?
- Does using Configure -> DNS -> System DNS work better for you?
- Are you using any proxies like WireGuard or SOCKS5?
IPv4, No proxy, system DNS yeilds the same results, anti-censorship is disabled, here is my network menu config.
Note that the issue has resolved itself as of last night, I don't know if it will come back or not.
Thanks. You may want to disable "Enable network visibility", though; as it lets apps bypass Rethink's VPN tunnel. And the "Use all available networks" is an experimental setting, so use it with caution (I use it and I've never seen packet drops due to it).
I don't know if it will come back or not.
Hm. For one-off or rare issues like this one, we'd not be able to do much without logs. If you're technical enough, the next time you see connections struggling and are positive that the underlying network (mobile / wifi) are not the ones causing it, then start collecting "Very verbose" logs (the one you've shared above are "Error" logs only; you'd need to tap on the filter icon in that App logs UI in the search bar, and select "Very verbose") from Configure -> Settings -> App logs.
Network visibility seems to be needed for some things in my case. Thanks for the note though.
Thanks for the info about logs, I will make sure to do that the next time the issue pops up.
Still at the moment the app has seemed to have resolved itself. I'm not sure what was going on, because between it being bugged and it working fine, I didn't change anything. Rebooting, and reinstalling the app entirely did nothing and it only fixed itself several hours after I was messing around with anything.
