Orbot undetected if install source is Aurora Store?

A user writes,

I'm having an issue on GrapheneOS where I can't exclude Orbot from SOCKS5 proxy; the option is completely greyed out and also the one-click setup is greyed out as well. Is it an issue specific because of my settings or because I installed Orbot from aurora store?

I do not think the issue is with the install source only. I have installed the last version from github.com and it is not able to detect it either, nor the automatic nor the manual way.

Might be then, newer Orbot releases broke something (this has happened once before: #603 and #456). We'll check.

I believe I might be able to shed some light on this.

A while back (late 2022?) I discovered Orbot doesn't work with Rethink if the install source is anything other than the Guardian Project repository via F-Droid. Any install source, including Aurora Store, Github (browser), or even F-Droid (I believe the main repository ships a separate one from the Guardian Project), it will not work. Couldn't tell you why. I'm guessing Rethink just fails to identify Orbot properly, since they use different identifiers.

This was a while ago and it might not even be related to the issue you're suggesting, because I don't think I was using SOCKS.

When 'Block connections without VPN' is enabled, Orbot will enter a disabled state. Similarly, the App selection dropdown will be disabled for the SOCKS5 proxy.

I tried installing the app from Guardian Project's F-Droid and Github repos and Rethink did not detect either of them.
