There also seems to be a fix by @XaF, which does not require -shell-escape, and hence can be used by default: d21534e1822cd59a003faf4570fb8e8e0b758032

Thanks for the reference @abooij I can confirm that the version I have is working well. I've been using it for a few presentations. I maybe should create a pull request!
