It would be a great achievement for the CDS have a reliable map component that can integrate with web content in an accessible and seamless way. To that end, I suggest the integration and support for web maps using the <mapml-viewer> custom element suite. The component set was created and is supported by the Canada Centre for Mapping and Earth Observation at Natural Resources Canada, within the W3C Community Groups program.

No doubt there are items that we can add to improve the integration of the component with CDS, as well as a11y and other user-driven features, but hopefully we can start those conversations by putting maps on the roadmap :-)

Thanks for opening this ticket @prushforth ! I have a ticket or issue to investigate how to make this awesome contribution be a part of GCDS, and I'm hoping to work on it soon.

I'll save some time next week as well to review the PR.
