change the screen ratio

i would like to ask if there is a way to change the screen ratio during conversion , for example from 2.40:1 to 1.78 (16:9) Thank you in advance !!!

I have never done that with FFmpeg before, looks like there are filters to do it https://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-all.html#setdar_002c-setsar so I could add that in as an advanced feature probably!

thanks in advance , it is a very useful setting because many new movies are in the 2.40:1 resolution (wide screen ) and i prefer to have all my movies in the standard 16:9 ratio which is 1.78 or 1.85 Thanks again

I believe changing that setting will actually stretch / shrink pixels and distort the video. I imagine what you more want to do is just crop / pad it more on the edges?
