Sandbox2 Editor crashes on Windows 11

Open Pfoiffee opened this issue 7 months ago • 10 comments

Someone reported that the editor loads to the UI but then crashes out. It's dying in the CryRenderD3D9/CryRenderD3D10.dll

Please send Editor.log with crash details.

I'd love to see the editor working on Win11. Here's my crashlog:

Editor Build(6156) Date(25 Sep 2025) Time(01 20 57).log

Addition:

I uninstalled the game and cleaned everything. Since I own the Steam, GOG and Retail Versions, I decided to try it with a clean installation of the retail version.

Just to verify, the exact version is 1.1.1.5767 from retail disc with ISBN 0-7845-4117-5. sha1 5a11bc5f4ab702c747c216563553d7f6c6d5b538 md5 d0cfbcb5cdf5a7d26b2c5a36e0b30dce

Here's what I did:

  1. As some older games got problems with this, I verified that the game is installed to a directory with access rights for current user.
  2. Installed Patch 1.2
  3. Installed Patch 1.2.1
  4. Installed Sandbox 2 Editor (needed when using retail version)
  5. Made backups of original executables
  6. Applied C1 Launcher v7

The editor still crashes; Editor.log

Thanks for the info!

It's this mysterious crash in Oleacc.dll (Windows DLL) again. Still no idea what triggers it. I have Win11 24H2 here, where editor works fine, but Oleacc.dll is different from yours, so i can't check where exactly it crashes there. From the Windows version in the log, it seems you have Win11 22H2. Do you think you can update to 24H2 and send a new crash log?

I'm trying to avoid feature updates, but maybe this will help:

As far as I understand, Oleac.dll is a Microsoft Windows system library that belongs to the Active Accessibility (MSAA) framework. It acts as a bridge between standard applications and accessibility tools by exposing UI objects (buttons, menus, lists, etc.) in a standardized way. This is used by accessibility features.

Maybe you can look into this and disable the features for the editor, if needed. Let me know if I can help.

Yes, it seems it's related to accessibility stuff. I'm not able to reproduce the crash anywhere. It probably has something to do with some specific settings in Windows. A few people reported this crash already.

Okay, I was too curious and did the update. The editor starts now.

Moreover, I've started to notice a pattern: on certain days, the editor starts crashing. For example, Editor works the previous 3-4 days, but today it started crashing again (The OS did not reboot, I always use "sleep mode").

Does it crash on Win11 24H2 too?

The 24H2 update messed up my system so much, I had to do a clean Windows install... Now I'm on 25H2 (made a Microwin image) and the editor doesn't work again.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. I didn't copy the c1-launcher files over before testing... the editor seems to work for me now! :)
