applet causes continuously increasing memory usage on polkitd process

Open hyOzd opened this issue 8 years ago • 13 comments

I've been using this applet on 3 different machines. All of them had a memory leak regarding the 'polkitd' process. It's memory usage slowly but steadily increased. Since I don't shutdown my computer but rather suspend it, after a couple days, polkitd's memory usage will be around 500MB and I have to restart my system to re-claim the memory.

After seeing this bug report I've noticed the problem was caused by this applet. Removing this applet solved the issue.

I'm having this issue too.

I've even gone way over 500MB sometimes. As a habit I just started killing the polkitd process as killing it doesn't seem to affect anything in a negative way (?).

Can confirm too

~~I reinstalled the applet a few days ago and I have not since encountered this issue again. I wonder if I had the most recent version since the applets do not get auto-updated (?).~~

This doesn't prove that this applet is the culprit but it has something to do with it for sure:

If you increase the refresh rate to ludicrous speed (say 10ms) you literally watch polkitd's ram usage climb, about 1 MiB every 10 seconds.

(Linux Mint 17.3, Cinnamon 2.8.7, linux 4.2.0-27)

@maciey Try report issue in cinammon-spices-applets repo. Development is continued there.
