inaccurate column widths in preferences

They become OK only after window resize.

I noticed this as well, it seems like that's a GTK bug: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/3084

I added the workaround mentioned in the bug report which resolves the issue for now. I'll keep this issue open nonetheless, as a reminder to check now and then whether this issue was resolved upstream.
