[Translation] Proof read machine translations
We've machine translated 3400 symbols from the Mulberry symbol set into 33 languages.
Most of the languages need proofreading, you can either proofread using Crowdin WYSIWYG interface (recommended) or by manually editing the .json
files (no visual context - not ideal).

@ioRekz took French
I'll do the Greek translation (el)
This is amazing @karate @Luanmega thanks for making Cboard available in your area!
I'll do the Dutch translation! (nl.json)
Edit: done, see pull request #92. :)
@winnie334 thanks a lot, I've approved the translation, pushing to prod :) cheers!
@shayc No problem, glad I could help :)
@shayc I just noticed that german has not been proofread yet, so yeah, I could do that or rather would start right away! :)
@l3ekka, thank you!
No problem. :-) I just got through page one and two though, there have been some more changes to be made. I could go on tomorrow. If someone else is up for this, just let me know.
@shayc hey, I will check Turkish :)
@btk I'm honored! I have a special place in my heart for Turkish culture, been listening A LOT recently to Turkish music, mainly Selda Bagcan, Fikret Kizilok & Edip Akbayram and others from the 70's. I don't understand a word but the music.. oh man!
@shayc Hey, I'm not really into old music, but you should check Barış Manço. I mainly don't like Turkish music but if you like rock music you should also check "Model". I think one of the best rock bands, which happens to be making music in Turkish, which has a different flavor.
Also check #94 please 👍
@shayc I added some more updates for the de.json file.
I did proofread pages 1-14 and it looks pretty good so far. I wasn't quite sure what you mean or rather which german translation we could use for some of the symbols. So maybe someone will come up with some better suggestions. :-)
As for now, I'm out as I will not have much time in the coming weeks. All the best to you. :-)
@shayc I'll help with Polish, should we strictly stick with translating english words for consistency or can we use different ones based on pictures (more popular/common in our language)?
@nowyTR Hi thank you so much for the interest! A rule of thumb is to stick with the English references, it's easier to maintain. If an English word can have two equivalent translations but one is more common, by all means use the latter one.
The symbols were made in the UK, some of the words may make little sense to an outsider. We will incorporate more symbols to target a larger audience in the future.
@nowyTR I've deployed your translation fixes, thanks!
@shayc I would like to do the chinese-simplified prooofreading by editing the json file(Crowdin is not avilable in China Mainland.) So should I wait for your response to start my work.
@hanzhaogang thanks Please start doing the update z don't need to wait for Shay
@hanzhaogang we're humbled by your initiative. Please feel free, I know our users will thank you!
@shayc
Currently I make a pull request once I have some updates(usually 60-100 lines). If this approach is not prefered fell free to tell me. I have no idea about the way to contribute as I am a newbie to github.
@shayc hi during my translation, I found that sometimes it is really hard to choose the correct words in Chinese. Unfortunately due to the Internet policy of Chinese gorvenment, the recommended website to do the translating job is blocked, and I don't have a VPN right now. So I think I can builde the application and found the pictures in it, which can help my tranlating job. But one question is that , in the "get started" section in the README, we should "mkae image" which I beleive is a docker command trying to make a docker image, so is making a docker image is a mandatory? (the previous steps for npm works fine for me). Sorry for this question but I am not familiar of node.js and docker.
No the make
command isn't mandatory. You are right it is a Docker command.
Does the project runs with npm start
or yarn start
?
@shayc after the npm start
command, it is said that "Compiled successfully". But visiting the suggested http://localhost:3000/
in the browser only brings me a webpage without anything except for a titlebar icon and a sentence: "Cboard- AAC Communication board". I used to develop java backend web applications and after the deployment I can visit the websites with the contents I have developed and deployed.
Perhaps I have figured out the issue: I analysised the http requests and found that when I visited loclahost:3000/
, the deployed application tired to request some image from google.com
, which is also blocked by the Chinese Goverment(shame on it). So by deploying the application, we don't deploy everything on the loacal machines, and some external resources are still required to run it?
Actually I am trying to use this application in China. So maybe we should find a solution to this problem. Maybe I can try to get these resources from google.com,(using VPN) and deploy them in a server that can be visited in China. Of course I think I should make some changes in the source code to find the location of the resources. Perhaps I should do it before my translation.
@hanzhaogang I didn't realize the app doesn't work in China. This is really important to us.
- Can you identify the Google resources? Are we talking about the Analytics scripts?
- I wonder if https://app.cboard.io works in China?
- Is there any proxy/vpn service I can use to emulate surfing the web from China?
Great input! Can you try and join our chat server on Discord? If you can succeed we can have realtime conversations unless the time gap is too big. I'm from Israel, I have guys from UK, Argentina and the US. I bet some will be able to talk with you if I can't due to time gaps..
@shayc The app does works in China.. I am really sorry that I have made a mistake, which may have brought you great inconvinience.. The problem is that I use Firefox on my laptop and it seems that it doesn't work for Firefox and IE on laptop. (For Chrome it works perfectly.) Also there is no problem for Safari in my iphone and Firefox in my android phone(does not work for the default browser in my HUAWEI android phone). Good news is that now I can continue my translation work.
I'm in the middle of proofreading the translation to polish via Crowdin, and I found out that some of the tiles are getting this kind of label instead of translation:
While most of them occur only in letters, there are some like the one above ^. There's no way to change the translation as it is possible on the other tiles.
Though if I check a translation in the JSON file, there's nothing wrong with it: https://github.com/cboard-org/cboard/blob/master/src/translations/pl-PL.json#L1369-L1372
I'll keep proofreading via Crowdin and then I'll move to JSON to check the ones that left.
@Okelm Thanks for the input I’ll check soon to see what’s wrong. Also thanks for proofreading the Polish version, may I ask how did you find this project?
@shayc I was searching for an AAC tool.
I've checked the translation to polish and did some adjustments (a lot has been done before by @nowyTR). There are still issues with some of the tiles like the above mentioned plus a few more.
