Not working propertly

I've been trying to recreate this proyect, the installation of ev3dev went just fine, all working fine but when i try to run writer.py it opens but doesn't work as it shoud, it makes some weird letters but far from what it should do.

i tried with diferent versions of ev3dev with the same result, I've managed to chance the pen up problem, but still getting this weird non'sense drawing.
