Long-form --help option does not work with git alias invocation

I'm able to do git-fame -h, git-fame --help and git fame -h, but git fame --help shows the following output:

No manual entry for git-fame

Could the current help text (git-fame.1) be repurposed as a manpage for git to pick up?
