Instructor Selection: Need system to record instructors who were scheduled to teach but couldn't make it...
....for excused or unexcused reasons. This should include how much notice they gave and what the reason was.
This is almost two years old, I don't remember my exact motivation for bringing this up. I don't think it's a priority now, but as we grow, at some point it may be useful to have record of people who have repeated cancellations. This can help us think about how we best support our community of volunteer instructors and ensure they are not overcommitting themselves.
This may fit into a larger project about how we monitor and support instructor activity and ongoing professional development.
@sheraaronhurt Let me know how you want to rank this. Which of the following applies to when you want to see this fixed?
- Would like to see this fixed as soon as possible, in the next 1-2 development cycles (i.e., by September 2019)
- Would like to see this fixed later (by the end of 2019)
- Would like to see this fixed, but possibly as part of a larger project that needs more planning
- Not sure
- No longer relevant - OK to close
@maneesha this would be a #3. Currently, in the confirmed spreadsheet I do make note of instructors that have to change. Not a huge priority for me right now.
@pbanaszkiewicz Could we consider including this in the instructor selection project, where we can maintain a log of who were confirmed in the instructor role and then canceled?
@maneesha I think that this feature lies within Instructor Selection project bounds. The question is: do we need a new story, or is it covered by existing story?
I agree it falls in the Instructor Selection project. This is what we wanted to see happen -- we want to have a log when someone signs up, gets confirmed as an Instructor for a workshop, and then is removed from the workshop.
I'd leave it up to @pbanaszkiewicz about whether this goes in its own story.
@danielle06 Is this something you'd still be interested in seeing?
@elichad Can you check on how we maintain this data to know what we can already do?
- if instructor retracts their own signup request (InstructorRecruitmentSignup), that request is deleted from AMY
- admins can mark a signup as Accepted or Declined. Accepting creates an associated Task, which is deleted if the signup is later declined. The signup request itself remains in the database regardless
- an instructor can't retract their own signup request after it has been accepted or declined.
- we currently have no way to mark that an accepted instructor couldn't make it to their workshop. If we were to add this, I'd consider using a new boolean field
cancelled
on the Task (instead of deleting the Task or declining the original request), since those are fairly readily editable in AMY (and could also then track cancellations from learners, helpers, etc with minimal extra work).
@maneesha I do think this would be helpful information to track. Thanks for checking.
