Media Keys - Hot Keys Registration Failed

I am trying to use media-keys in Ubuntu 16.04 and Firefox 50.1. The prior issue with the same name seemed different, so I am posting my own issue/question.

It is not clear (to me) from the description of the plugin what, if anything, I am supposed to change in my default settings to make this work. I have Ubuntu setup to have the FN keys act as media keys by default (as in a Mac). So F7 is back, F8 is play/pause, F9 is forward, and the audio keys are F10, F11, and F12.

This setup does not appear to be consistent with media keys, as I am getting the error below. Please let me know what needs to be changed to have the plug-in work?

It is most likely that this key combination is already in use by another application. Find that app, and make it release this hotkey. Possibly could be in use by the "Global Keyboard Shortcuts" of the system - http://i.imgur.com/cLz1fDs.png


Details: Was not able to register the `code_os` of `172` on `grabwin` of `1262`. Other info: `grabwins`: 1262 codes_os: 172,208,215 code: 269025044

You must have that hotkey already in use. Please go to your system hotkeys, and disable it. It's typical that this hotkey is in use by the audio category.
