Error with S3 hosted asset

I have an Amazon S3 hosted audio file, and when attempting to retrieve the duration of the clip I receive the following error:

Invalid $sync_seek_buffer_size at offset 0

I've increased the download size config setting but I'm still receiving the same error. I have other installs where locally hosted files do not produce the same error.
