How about adding a way to select countries? And have an option to either use full country names or 2 or 3 letter country codes.

What about that <select> element, other than the source of the data (which can be highly political, and changes occasionally), would be specific to countries?

This sounds like an input you could create yourself using the methods forms already exposes.
