Ubuntu Documentation Incomplete: Intel RST & Ubuntu installation
Hello Canonical,
I was trying to install Ubuntu on my computer (which supports RST) with the instructions on https://help.ubuntu.com/rst/. But none of the workarounds outlined on that page solved the boot issue (INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE) that I was experiencing. What worked for me was the solution outlined on this page: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1233623/workaround-to-install-ubuntu-20-04-with-intel-rst-systems
It would be great if you could add that solution to your documentation page, as it may help other people as well. With that said, I highly appreciate your work and enjoy using Ubuntu. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue to us. @evildmp who would be best to look into this?
@aaronprisk maybe?
I will get in touch with the documentation folks and see if we can revise that page with the solution that @cornell419 mentioned.
Thanks for your suggestion @cornell419 . I'm in the Documentation group, discussing this issue with Aaron. We do need to be careful about adding any workaround to an already busy page: we could help some users, but cause major problems for others whose system configurations we can't anticipate. We'll update the content once The Right Way To Do It is agreed.
No problem, Lloyd and Anthony. Maybe you could put it under a section entitled "If all else fails, try this..." or something like that.
Best regards, Claudio Veron-Dulay

The page in question is https://help.ubuntu.com/rst. I have no idea how or why this came to be. It could be a one-off doc piece that was published and forgotten.
The story continues. There seems to have been an effort on the part of the Canonical Community team to move select parts of the Ubuntu Community Wiki at https://help.ubuntu.com/community to a Discourse instance at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/c/documentation. By coincidence, the page in question was also somehow part of this effort:
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-installation-on-computers-with-intel-r-rst-enabled/15347
The two pages are very similar but not identical.
The best way forward is to leave a comment in the Discourse topic above explaining how it (probably also) can be improved. You may even be able to edit the page yourself.
Got it, I'll have a look at the Discourse pages, and will see if I can edit them directly.
Best regards, Claudio Veron-Dulay

Thanks Claudio. FWIW we're keeping this issue alive, so we can be sure of resolving it in the right place and with the right guidance. It's in the hands of the SMEs ATM. I'm in an outlier timezone but I'll chase it up in the morning and see what the thinking is so far.
No problem, Lloyd. That's good to know; hopefully, the additional troubleshooting info will help other users save a ton of time, as they won't have to sift through multiple search results for possible solutions.

@anthonydillon Unless I'm missing something, the page (https://help.ubuntu.com/rst) should be removed. We should probably also check for any other content that was published in that namespace.
Can ubuntu directly support installation under Intel RST?
Hi @pmatulis, would you have an update on this? AFAIK the web team doesn't own help.ubuntu.com so there's not much we can do on our end to close the loop here 🙂
@mtruj013 Open a doc bug and ask the community documentation team to remove the page.
Hi, we're creating a new documentation set for Ubuntu Desktop. This will replace the help.ubuntu.com website among other things.
When you open the https://help.ubuntu.com/rst link now, it already redirects to the new documentation where we're consolidating content.
I'm reading the comments in the Discourse thread and integrating them into the guide.
Thank you for the update on this @msuchane
Then I believe this issue can be closed.
Closing this as the documentation stated in this issue has been moved to readthedocs
