Science category, with sub-categories for each discipline

It would be great to be able to use this site to catalog science related open source initiatives across the GC.

Ideally, science category, but as (conditional) mandatory fields.

Please contact me etienne.low-decarie [at] ssc-spc.gc.ca . I am part of a new team Data Solutions for Science/ Science program and we are exposed to numerous open source projects across the GC in the science .

Do you mean the categories on the current "Code" form https://code.open.canada.ca/en/open-source-codes.html? That is driven by values from https://www.ungm.org/Public/UNSPSC that are mapped in https://github.com/canada-ca/ore-ero/blob/master/_data/i18n/categories.yml

It does not really matter to us where this information would be captured, just as long as whether the software is scientific in nature and to which discipline/branch it most closely associates would be captured and could be used to filter information so that we can contribute to and leverage this tool for inventory purposes.

To capture if it is or not scientific software, I was thinking of a Science software in the Category list as in https://github.com/canada-ca/ore-ero/blob/master/_data/i18n/categories.yml but now understand this comes from an existing ontology.

I was thinking of an additional variable that is mandatory only for scientific software that would capture scientific discipline.

It would probably make sense to use a GC categorization (e.g. https://www.tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca/app-acq/cral-sarc/lgcl-ctgr-eng.html), though this imperfectly captures scientific disciplines.

Wikipedia has a (translated) software categorization https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Software_by_type including sub-categorization of Science software https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Science_software

Wikipedia also has (translated) a list of branches of science https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Branches_of_science#:~:text=%20The%20branches%20of%20science%2C%20also%20referred%20to,its%20social%20and%20cultural%20aspects.%20%5B1%5D%20More%20 and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Index_of_branches_of_science

Cheers
