USC Project Athena Community Assessment
@catherinechung PR for you :)
Hey @catherinechung!
I managed to make this really hard for me to comment on, so excuse the awkward comment structure.
In April, we're hosting AthenaHacks, a hackathon to give this community an open and collaborative environment to build and learn new things. We had over 1000 applicants apply, and 400 RSVP'd.
Amazing! I'm really excited to hear how this went, it was last weekend, right?
There are a few CS-related clubs on campus, such as Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Women in Computing (WiC), Girls in Tech (GiT).
What's the current relationship with them look like?
The community is heavily dominated by CS students, but there have been students who are interested in coding, or having a CS minor.
Is this something you're looking to change? Do you have ideas around addressing that?
I hope that the community will also talk about impostor syndrome and the environment of the tech world for females.
Great! We're hoping to have an imposter syndrome talk on campus experts by an amazing speaker, will keep you in the loop.
Regardless of major, they are passionate about developing and learning new things. Activities such as hackathons, group projects, and workshops can be implemented to set the community up for success.
These two points sound like they'll be the basis for your impact proposal
This community will be welcoming to all ideas and beliefs. There will be a 0% harrassment policy since this is supposed to be an open forum for women in tech to be themselves. If there is a disagreement, things will be talked out peacefully between the parties until it is resolved.
You should consider a code of conduct to codify this, if you haven't already!
The organizing team has written out a policy of how the club/community should be run.
I'd love to see this!
Overall, this is a great window into your community, thank you. I look forward to the impact proposal and how you're going to build on this community!
Hi @joenash! We had our event this weekend and it was an amazing time! We had over 310 people attend when we were expecting only 250 attend but there was enough food to go around (all happy campers). I'd love to talk to you more about this some time soon!
We chatted about this and it was awesome 💖
@catherinechung feel free to merge when you're ready :)
