WPM rate does not account for pauses (slower than reported)

I noticed that 400 WPM seemed very slow and far too easy to read so I decided to clock how long it took to read an article. I timed several articles (all text) and most took an extra 65-75% longer than projected. For example, when I finished one article squirt said "You just read 1855 words in 4.6 minutes!", which is 400 WPM. However, I timed the reading at almost 8 minutes (just over 230 WPM).

It occurred to me at one point that the delays for punctuation and paragraph breaks would result in slower-than-reported speeds, but didn't expect it to be this bad. I just ran a test that was about 30% slower—definitely want to address this...
