Allow saved playlists to be shared

Joint moderation (or simply user interaction) would be easier if saved playlists could be shared.

What do you mean? Like being able to duplicate a saved playlist from one account to another?

That's one way it could be done. Although, I'm not sure whether creating duplicates in place of sharing would be preferable.

Other ways could be:

  • to add a channel-specific section to the Playlist Manager.
  • to add a playlist section to the Moderation Menu (so, channel-specific).
  • to add a "shared" checkbox aside each saved playlist in the Playlist Manager that could allow that playlist to be viewed by or accessible to other users through some other means.

There are, of course, more possible ways than those. However, the more I think about it, the murkier the details become. Admins and moderators with more experience might be able to offer more effective suggestions. Having a history of playlist changes seems like overkill, but having a set of frequently-used playlists for periodic group events in channels seems beneficial.

I'm just not really sure (1) what you want and (2) why it would be worth the cost and complexity of implementing it.

I'm not really trying to build a sharing platform, the point of user playlists is to provide a convenient way for users to collect videos together and add them in bulk. I wouldn't have even added them if not for the fact that I support multiple streaming sites, otherwise I would have just told people "go make a YouTube playlist"

That changes my perspectives and helps to focus them. Thank you.

The idea started as a way for admins and moderators to have the ability to collectively edit or call upon a set of playlists for use during organized channel events or scheduled programming blocks. Limiting the playlists to one user would mean that whoever saved those lists would have to be in the channel and not AFK. Duplicating lists between moderators could remedy this, but then there would be multiple copies of individually-editable playlists. I realize implementing a content management system just for playlists would be too complex and costly, but I feel the original intent still has some useful potential.

For moderation, a simpler alternative could be channel-specific saved playlists editable by moderators or by whichever permission level is selected in a corresponding Permissions drop-down box. If viewing the text titles contained in a list (not playing the videos) is implemented or editing a channel-specific saved list is implemented, a viewing or editing area could be added in the Moderation Menu with a similar look and feel to the existing active playlist area. To review the videos by playback, moderators could add the playlist to the channel's active playlist area (adversely disrupting other users) --or-- duplicate the channel-specific saved playlist as a user-specific playlist and go in an empty channel --or-- be able to duplicate the channel-specific playlists to an empty channel's saved playlists where they could collaborate without disturbing the active list in the main channel.

When considering duplicate playlists, the idea expanded into non-moderators sharing lists, but you've clarified that you're not aiming for that type of platform. Duplication, however, could prove useful between username aliases, unless that's done already.... (That should probably go in a separate issue, but for now I've been trying to detail my thoughts in regards to the original post.)

I apologize. I've had more ideas as I thought about this, and they're all somewhat related. For this issue thread, I wish to focus on the moderator capabilities only.

I'm toying with the idea of just having channel playlists accessible by the mods and a small interface to copy to/from user playlists. It would work the same way as a user playlist.
