Restore stats component to `sdn.py`

In all the excitement of #2191, a piece of the puzzle has gone missing from sdn.py: we are no longer calling the stats component as we used to. This omission is fine for day-to-day operation, but it would be good to add it back since it shipped with a paper. This issue reminds me to add it back.
