Sound 34 seems to be wrong. Sound 40 sounds a bit different. Sound 60 sounds wrong in the Mac version!? Sound 97 is completely different.

All sounds are present in the repository a) as a WAV and b) as a 'snd ' resource in the file "Blades of Exile Sounds" (found under rsrc/legacy). I consider the latter to be the authoritative form in most cases, but it's surprisingly difficult nowadays to actual extract them to a WAV/AIFF. I did write a Python script to do it, which works for most sounds as long as you can copy the data from a single resource into a standalone file (it's at rsrc/convert_sounds.py).

  • Sound 34 is a "ca-click" sound of a button being pressed; however, when I play the WAV version, I only hear the second click.
  • Sound 40 is "thank you very much". The WAV version sounds a bit different for some reason, perhaps a difference in sample rate or something?
  • Sound 60 is labelled "little boom" and sounds kinda weird. The WAV for sound 60 seems to be a completely different sound, that which was played when you step into a fire field in Exile III. In this case I'm not quite sure which is the correct sound to use here; I'd actually be inclined to include both of them, but there'd still need to be some way to decide which one to use for legacy scenarios.
  • Sound 97 is a grunt sound labelled "monst dead". Both the snd and the WAV are clearly a grunt, but they both sound pretty distinct.
