Win10 version of ARK is not recognized by the ASB-OCR

I have searched and searcched even read your config page which I now realise defaults to 1080p anyway, I've tried windowed mode, fullscreen, you name it. I have one monitor, I alt tab out, click the button even changed the delay to alt tab back into the game, and it still wont record anything but it records my screenshots perfectly, I don't want to have to take a screenshot, look for the file then put it in each time unless there is literally no other option at this point, I play on windows 10 version and have even tried switching it to xbox app in the OCR settings, I have been trying to fix this for hours now and at my wits end lol, please any solution to this would be really appreciated.

Thank you

Hi, sorry you spent so much time on that. I personally only own the steam version of it, and OCR is primarily designed to work with that. The Win10 version apparently runs in some kind of container from which screenshots are hard to take programmatically, so far people have reported that the OCR won't work with the Win10 version. Initially the custom app selection in the settings was designed to fix that, but apparently it's not working.

Sorry if i hijack this issue. I have the same issue. Additionally, using the screenshot button from inside the application seems not to make a screenshot. However, i can make my own screenshot with Lightscreen installed. But i havent found a way to load a picture taken with LightScreen. I can make it in format png or jpg, but i miss a button or function to load the screenshot.

Update: Ahh, reading a comment here, i know now, that i can drag&drop a image saved somewhere at hdd to the application window. This works so far. However, having a button which loads such an image from hdd and extracting the data and returning to extractor tab in one step would be useful, i think.

The Windows Store (Win10) version of Ark doesn't run in a traditional executable like most programs do. The Windows Store programs and games are what is known as a Universal Windows Program (UWP) and don't play nicely with traditional mechanics, like grabbing a process ID or Window Title.

Due to how UWPs behave, it is very difficult to get them to cooperate with something like ASB which makes OCR support for it difficult. Manually screenshot thing the game is likely your best bet, but adding the screenshot into ASB is a bit unintuitive. You have to drag the image into the experimental OCR tab to get it to extract the information from a manual screenshot.

Aside from the business of OCR to begin with, the extra effort it takes to manually take and process a screenshot is more challenging to me than manual input (came from 2 years of playing on Xbox and then Win10).

Another option for you is you could use an intermediate program to record Ark's game and ASB can hook into that to get the screenshot. ASB allows for any normal windows program to be hooked for the Ark image and the only usage of this that I'm aware of was a user that was streaming from him PS4 to his PC and grabbing the screenshots through the streaming program. Unfortunately, we can't provide any immediate recommendations for what to use or how to set it up other than ASB can access almost any executable (aside from UWPs).
