Translate menus into different languages
If internationalization of our menus is possible, then we could try to translate them into different languages. Here are the volunteers so far:
dg-505: German gsagostinho: Portuguese
I ran into trouble while translating: FlightGear doesn't support letters like Ä, Ö, Ü or ß, which occur quite frequently in the German language. I'm not sure, but I can imagine that there are similar problems with Portuguese and other languages. Does anybody have an idea how to deal with this problems?
Is it FlightGear or a matter of xml heading?
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
The first one generally has problems with accents (in comments) The second one can do with them. If this is FlightGear, I do not know.
Hm, I'll try it.
Doesn't work. With none of theses xml-headings.
It's probably PUI, which doesn't support UTF-8.
It is probably not easy, the DC3 translated tutorial has been made with no accents in French. http://www.mediafire.com/download/m5dvrr71amkra4f/DC3-20130523.7z
Apparently,
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
And using ISO-8859-1 as encoding must work. This is how localization is used in FGDATA/Translations
Keep in mind most modern text editors are configured with UTF8 encodings. Please, be sure you are using ISO-8859-1
This is how it looks like with ISO-8859-1 in the xml-header: http://abload.de/img/tutorialsegyrw.jpg
Since some single letters are drawn as several characters in your snapshot, I believe this is because your header says ISO-8859-1, but your file really uses UTF-8
Are you sure your text editor is configured with ISO-8859-1?
In any case, please, keep in mind that checking if the tutorials are right is an open (and high priority!) issue. You may want to wait for the tutorials to settle down before translating the text.
You can also check and improve the tutorials in English, of course!
