Sync using shared (not published) link
This would be a great feature for syncing without it having to be published on the web :-)
I'm don't sure I understand the motivation for using the share link instead of the published one. Maybe if you could expand upon it
The main issue is that the html format for a shared page is a lot more complicated then the published page. I also think it would have to be a public link anyway

I thought that this might be the case but thought I would ask anyway :-)
I am thinking along the lines of having an option for private flashcards is all. This would mostly be for flashcards containing sensitive information that users do not want published to the web.

So the issue is more that you would like a way to have a private doc that you can share between a small group?
I doubt that the public pages are indexed but very hard to know tbh.
The probably solution would be to allow some kind of download from the normal edit page and allow you to manually sync with that?

I can't speak for others but in my case I wouldn't see a need to share the doc.
If what you described is possible it sounds like that would be a good solution ;-)

So the main reason for sharing the document it that you have a publicly accessible link that you can scrape from. I don't think the link is index so it probably is quite hard to find without someone specifically sharing it with you.
If you are more just thinking of something that is all local then I have another add-on https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1029306148 that might be a better fit to your usecase?
So I have a development plan for half tested but it will be a while until I can get around to completing it unfortunately.
I will update the issue once I have started working on it though.
I will probably come under and advanced features section for the add-on
