Terry, thank you for the question, also on the mailing list: What is the name of Macro05/Macro06 ? The name is "ISO/IEC15434 Syntax for high-capacity ADC media".

I would favor for an automated detection, as it always leads to smaller codes. This feature is widly supported by Bar Code Scanners. zint just compares the data and uses Macro05/06.

Auto detection and compression of "[)>{RS}05/06{GS}...{RS}{EOT}" structured data is introduced by a1f1da4fb00c18897d47cd8e84b6b6a1156282ae in the 2016-06-03 release:
