I have been looking into exchange arbitrage, but it seems like after fees and everything they are all about even. Am I missing something?

That's why a bot is useful when looking for arbitrage opportunity. Most of the time there is none. Sometimes, when the price moves it might move faster in one exchange than in an other. It might only be profitable for a couple of seconds. A bot might be fast enough to calculate all the fees and make a bid on the exchanges before the price moves and there is no arbitrage opportunity. Sometimes even the bot is not fast enough to make the bids on both exchanges in time.
