300 char-ish paragraphs are laggy on macbook

Not on a macbook pro, but on some more limited hardware medium-length paragraphs can get laggy.

As we discussed it appears to be re-rendering the content block on every key press (as indicated by a flicker) which could explain why it starts to get laggy. Interestingly this doesn't happen on numeric key presses just alpha.

If the cursor is at the start or in the middle of a block of text and I type numbers I get the flicker, if the cursor is at the end of the block of text I do not.

I always get the flicker when entering Latin characters, Cyrillic characters, or Chinese characters.

I get no flicker with emoji.
