Sequential arrangement in compact mode?

Hallo David,

in #344 I wrote about sequential arrangements. The current compact mode doesn't appear to be sequential.

To clarify, here is the order in classic mode:

And in compact mode:

Which is quite ok for applications where the displayed order is not extremely important and these applications also wish maximum density (it is the "high" density in #344). In some cases, however, the order is crucial.

With this in mind, a question: In the current compact mode, is there a way to achieve a sequential arrangement somehow?

To further clarify my question, here is an example of what the arrangement might look like (density "medium" in #344):

Is something similar possible with the current compact mode?
