Should Pset_FootingCommon have LoadBearing?

Open Moult opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

The definition:

A footing is a part of the foundation of a structure that spreads and transmits the load to the soil.

So, is it possible to have Pset_FootingCommon.LoadBearing = False?

If not, I propose to remove.

I would expect that a footing is load bearing by definition, so, I am keen to remove it.

I would see some value in it as a generic filter for structural elements.

But the psets that carry this property currently are not very consistent. http://ifc43-docs.standards.buildingsmart.org/IFC/RELEASE/IFC4x3/HTML/property/LoadBearing.htm Doesn't the same apply to Pile? And why sibling class CaissonFoundation then is not in the list?

So I would say:

  • either only assign it to entities where there is reasonable doubt (your proposal) or
  • assign it much more generally as to any element that can be structural including the obvious ones.

seems to be superflouus and should be removed +1
