Some reported problems with MacOS

Steve Sink on Mandelbulber Facebook 21 May 2018

I fired up the MAC version of Mandelbulber 2.13-2, and gave it a whirl. Here's my error encounters. Others please add as you find them. (Latest version of MAC OS, i7 quad-core 2012 Mac Mini).

  1. It takes an eternity to compile OpenCl files when you hit render, but then finally kicks in and starts working on my embedded intel HD graphics 4000 GPU part of my CPU chip. At least 4 minutes to compile before rendering starts, and there's no indicator to tell you what's going on, but I waited and waited and then it kicks in.
  2. Right-clicking on parameters does not give you the option to add them to the animation parameters, like in Windows. I couldn't add any parameters to the animation.
  3. The lightmaps and other files that MDBB points to had to be re-directed to different folders. I eventually found the lightmaps in the app, but I had to dig for them and they are not in the default place that MDBB looks for them. I'll add as I encounter other issues! I'm rendering a short 1000-frame Mandelbulb, but I couldn't add any parameters like rotation or power size, only camera and fractal movements. Cheers! --Steve

Krzysztof Marczak Can you create issues on GitHub with screenshots with detailed description of problems? https://github.com/buddhi1980/mandelbulber2/issues

Stephen Sink I will sure try! I didn't even know if anyone was planning to mess with the MAC version or not but I'll be happy to go in and report some things.

Krzysztof Marczak If are be able, we will try to fix the problems

Krzysztof Marczak About Intel HD GFX chipsets it makes a lot of troubles on many systems. I think Intel chipsets and drivers are not enough good for such a big OpenCL kernels.

Stephen Sink Krzysztof Marczak More than likely! I just thought I'd see if it worked. I don't see me using it for much. And it does seem to work, just takes a bit to compile before starting. Otherwise, worked fine. It's the GUI that was missing a lot of the right-click options that I noticed first

"And it does seem to work, just takes a bit to compile before starting."

That is my experience with Intel HD4600 GFX on Win10 64

folder structure requires mitigation

Hi all,

A fairly minor problem I've noticed with multiple (native) desktops on MacOS is that mandelbulber stops rendering if the window is not:

  • unhidden
  • on the current desktop

OS: 10.13.6 MB: 2.18-1, OpenCL mode: full, device: AMD Radeon 555

Workaround: set MB application visibility to "all desktops", do not hide window. Minimized window is OK.

People not using multiple desktops shouldn't see this unless there is some other dependency involved.

Cheers & thanks, Peter
