Hi, it's been a while since the app has been re-baselined and there are a number of new features that I think justifies the re-baseline.

Thought this might be a good spot to start a discussion about the last 20.X version. For a bit of background, Twitch changed the layout of the App's Home Tab drastically recently, to a more Tiktok like layout (see here).

Our options seeme to be:

  • Stopping right before that change (meaning somewhere around 20.6) with rebasing (potentially forever)
  • Accept the new layout and just continue
  • Try and keep the old layout somehow in the BTTV App (if that is technically even possible).

It will be

Accept the new layout and just continue

We have to assume the Twitch Product People know what they are doing, even though any reasonable person would disagree (wtf is this shit? who asked for this? am I getting old?)

I'll assume they will revert this change in the future, tbh.

Workload wise I assume little will change, as bttv-android does not hook the home tab at all.

They won't. They doubled down on it in the patch notes, saying they'll just add metadata to the Following list. They still insist on burying it and making sure you're bombarded with a random video before you can get to anything else. Personally, I would prefer if you didn't update to this awful layout. Or, give us a choice between the old Following tab and the new Home tab.

From my experiences in past tech jobs, there always is only the way forward, never backwards (See Sonos and their new app that was so horrible, they estimated it will cost them 30 million dollar to fix). So I also doubt they will revert it. However, we might be able to make slight improvements to it at least with the patches.
