The reason your floats aren't adjacent in 03-css is because you have newlines between the divs. The second div starts on a line of text below the start of the first. You can test this a few ways e.g. by removing the newlines, adding more newlines, and putting them in a parent container with a different font size. This is caused by the <pre> tag that the editor and results are in, since it makes newlines in the file newlines on the page.
