Final Fantasy V RPGe v1.10 Black Screen

When starting the Final Fantasy V RPGe v1.10 translation from romhacking.net the game fails to boot with a black screen.

The page says it was last modified on 10 March 2016, is that when the v1.10 patch came out? The older version v1.1 does work on bsnes though, but I'm not sure when that one came out.

Edit: The readme.txt actually says.

v1.10 (10/17/98):
- Updated this file a bit
- Patch file has been fixed to reflect spelling fixes

v1.01 (06/18/98):
- Officially posted on RPGe
- Updated this file a bit
- No change to actual patch, sorry
