Private (in-app) notes
Hello,
Reading openstreetmap information about notes, it appears notes can only be hidden from view, but not really deleted from the maps. This makes it inconvenient to use notes for personal or temporary data entered into maps that are not intended to ever be sent to the map server.
For example, during mapping I would like to add notes to certain points for my own use only. This data could be stored in device's local storage - it doesn't need to exist anywhere remote.
Could something like that be implemented? Thanks.
While it's true that notes are public and eternal it's perfectly acceptable to write notes for yourself, assuming they relate to mapping. If you want notes for non-mapping purposes then this is probably the wrong app to use for that.
If other people see a value in private notes I'll consider it.
For example, the primary reason why I would use these "private" notes is for adding notes to myself which road to take the next time I'm there. This is not something I would want to upload to a map server since it's irrelevant for public, yet relevant for maps and me as note author.
OK, since you are kind and OK with testing the idea of private notes with the public, let's give thumbs on this ticket. Thanks!
I'd like to add that I currently write notes about what I encountered onto a screenshot of the map, so I have it available when I map the details at home. As I touched on in #529 writing notes onto the map (also private / local of course) would be useful for me. When I walk around I generally don't have the time to set the correct attributes, so I write down some notes to apply them at home.
