Cant get Arduino UNO to produce SPI commands to MAX2870

Thanks for providing this software. Before I connect the Arduino to the MAX2870 I tried to verify SPI operation. I verifed SPI with separate test code. I downloaded your software along with BitFieldManipulation library & BeyondByte library. Everything compiles and loads correctly. I enter commands and responses as follows: CE ON ok STEP 25000 ok REF 25000000 1 UNDIVIDED ok SWEEP 1000000000 5000000000 1000 1 1 FUNDAMENTAL Calculating step 0 - frequency is now 1000000000 Hz Nothing happens from here No SPI activity I must be missing something.
