phpMyAdmin is not working

Hi, php sessions and therefore phpMyAdmin are not working. I was getting this phpMyAdmin error: "Cannot start session without errors, please check errors given in your PHP and/or webserver log file and configure your PHP installation properly." . Currently, session.save_path is pointing to "/var/lib/php5" not to "/var/lib/php5/sessions". (I am not sure if it is necessary to change the folder permission)
