Feature Request: Add "Run as Administrator" Option as Alternative Launch Method
Feature Request: Run as Administrator Option
Description: Some Windows games and applications require administrator privileges to run correctly, especially those that access protected directories or need elevated system access. Currently, Winlator does not provide a native way to launch executables with administrator rights.
Proposed Solution: Introduce a "Run as Administrator" option within the app launcher or file manager. Possible implementations:
- A checkbox when launching apps.
- A right-click context menu item, similar to native Windows.
Benefits:
- Enhances compatibility with games that require elevated privileges.
- Gives users more control over how games/apps are launched.
- Makes the experience closer to Windows, improving usability.
Alternatives Considered: Manually configuring Wine settings or scripts is not beginner-friendly and may lead to errors or inconsistent behavior.
Visual Example: I've attached a screenshot mock-up showing how "Run as Administrator" could appear in the right-click context menu, similar to native Windows Explorer
Thank you for considering this suggestion!
What is “Windows software that fails when running inside Winlator because it does not have administrative privileges”? Can you provide a link to download it or at least the name?
Wine already runs everything as admin
clearly not, i'm trying to run one and it's not working...
if the desired program does not launch that means its not supported yet
Oh ;-; ok
(Also good to know I'm not the only br awake at this time :)
