malloc error when using gitx command-line tool

When I use the gitx command in terminal, GitX.app does open, but I get an error message in the terminal saying:

gitx(9543,0x7fff70240c20) malloc: reference count underflow for 0x2000a44a0, break on auto_refcount_underflow_error to debug.

Any ideas of what might be causing this?
