vim/ace not working for Whatsapp

Context

Hitting Ctrl-I in a textbox of Whatsapp, vim starts. I enter text. I exit vim, but the just entered text is not being copied into the textbox. The textbox is not being updated. Not by :w, not by :q, not by ZZ, not by Ctrl-Enter.

Here, for the github-textbox, it works just fine as it should.

I did also a fresh install of the newest Firefox, with 32-bit and with 64-bit, created a new firefox-profile, installed only Surfingkeys. So no side-effects possible from other extensions.

I'm having the same issue with SurfingKeys 1.12 on Brave, and also had it before with Wasavi. It seems to be caused by WhatsApp, not the extensions themselves. Did anybody find a solution?
