Are you using windows? There are [known issues](https://github.com/samshull/node-proxy/issues/19) with node-proxy on Windows.

Unfortunately, I haven't tested on Windows, so I'm not quite sure. I beileve node-proxy is being used by nowjs, so perhaps their [windows instructions](http://blog.nowjs.com/running-nowjs-natively-on-windows) might help?
