New rubygems release?

Open rsanheim opened this issue 9 months ago • 1 comments

Heya 👋 - any chance a maintainer could ship a new rubygems release? Looks like the latest release was Feb 2024, and there have been some significant improvements to mainline since then: https://github.com/brianmario/mysql2/compare/0.5.6...master

Thanks y'all!

Yes any news on this, please? MySQL 8.4 has now changed the default authentication plugin so the current release of this gem fails to connect

@sodabrew is there anything we can do to get a new version released? Happy to help work on some PRs if there are some things you'd like done before the next release.

@sodabrew Please consider a release for #1399. If there's some kind of "yeah, but first I need to..." dread task holding you back, please share. Perhaps we can help.

I'll ship a new version in a few weeks (the end of September) unless anyone has objections (or if someone beats me to it 😅)

Shipped 0.5.7. LMK if it broke anything 😅

Thanks, Aaron!

We have a bunch of installation tests for mysql2 on Mac runners that I can check. Hopefully this release makes it easier to install on MacOS but I'll report back if there are any new issues.

On our MacOS runners, this is now the minimum needed to install mysql2:

brew install zstd
gem install mysql2 -v 0.5.7

We no longer have to set ldflags! 🥳
