support rgba color definitions

Instead of alpha as a sidecar value to a hex definition, support alpha through rgba definitions.

I hadn't seen this fork and pull request before I implemented rgba-style defs myself (https://github.com/fastmiso/DB5; 8eeec9eb5a4a04eebc05c8a871f7ccc0d8efed5a). No reason for me to add to open pull requests, but thought I'd also note my interest and implementation.
