Flake fixes

This PR is for discussion, at least initially.

A good majority of these can (and should..) be solved a better way. If you dont have the time, feel free to suggest how you'd prefer it solved and I'll send a separate PR.

Some of these are stylist decisions which you may dislike, and I am happy to add them to the tox ignore list. Note flake8-putty is my own beast, created for pywikibot in order to allow existing style problems to be ignored and prevent the style problem spreading.
