Brave keeps forgetting VPN credentials

Description:

Hey! As a happy user, because I want to support Brave directly, I bought my VPN subscription on the Web. However, it's really infuriating that every 2 hours, Brave VPN forgets that I had activated it and I have to sign in on account.brave.com and reload my credentials again and again.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Buy Brave VPN from account.brave.com
  2. Sign in on iOS
  3. Turn VPN off and wait a few hours

Reproduces how often: Easily reproduced

Brave Version: v1.51

Device details: iPhone 13 Mini (latest iOS)

@iccub this still is an ongoing issue for me and others. Is it a work in progress at all? And are there any types of logs that would help?

So this sends through a cycle of continuously having to return to account.brave.com to refresh the ability to connect to VPN.

Just an addendum. Part of the issue is when you refresh the VPN on account.brave.com it only triggers a 24 hour period. For example, I just activated it again today and it shows it expires today. IMG_3558

So then at some point tomorrow it’ll be logged out again and I’ll have to go through the same process

I just updated Brave on my iOS to 1.60 and had to go through the login process. Once done, checked and seems it still shows expiration date for today. I’ll update if it miraculously keeps connected, but otherwise seems no fix in update. IMG_3597

I will check it thanks. It may just be a display bug where a wrong date is shown. We do have one 24hour time interval where we check if credentials are still valid. But there should be a proper date in the receipt payload too

Not sure if you are all messing with things right now but I had lost access to internet for a bit. Forgot VPN was still going. When I tried turning VPN off in Brave, it wouldn’t let me and provided a notice that it couldn’t connect to the app store.

I managed to turn it off through iOS settings. Then saw the usual message as if I don’t have a subscription. So seems to only be checking through App Store perhaps, but my subscription was done from desktop and activated by going to account.brave.com

But otherwise goes to show VPN went bad within just a 2 hour period otherwise. Not sure why and don’t know how to access or share any logs if anything might be helpful for you.

This might be fixed with https://github.com/brave/brave-core/pull/21071 This fix will should in the next release for iOS

You mean the update I mentioned or another after? I’m currently using Version 1.60 (23.11.27.16) and was using it when mentioned having issue.

What is interesting though since update to 1.60 is that “Brave” killed my internet due to VPN. I usually use wifi only and have mobile data off. This morning wasn’t getting internet. VPN toggle in Brave was off and if tried to toggle on it showed like had no account. After some investigation, I found in my iPhone’s settings it was constantly trying to connect to Brave VPN but wasn’t connecting because Brave was denying. For now, I fixed that by disabling the toggle to connect on demand. I then regained internet (wifi had vanished even though connected, now wifi icon reappeared and internet was available)

As to VPN, current status was disconnected again.

I’ll stop the constant updates, but just wanted to show that I just went to enable VPN and it’s already disconnected and showing like I’m not using. So isn’t even lasting 24 hours.
