Brave Commander - ideas/request for some commands

Open TEMP-ad opened this issue 1 year ago • 2 comments

Hey @fallaciousreasoning

Saw your post in Community Brave, https://community.brave.com/t/quick-commands-no-longer-works-after-1-62-153-update/528608/7 I can't post in the community because I was banned, but I have some suggestions for commands that could be useful and added to the commander

Most are about Tab groups. I think Tab Groups deserve more love, this is my list, some are taken from https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/tab-groups-extension/nplimhmoanghlebhdiboeellhgmgommi, since it is my favorite extension to auto-group creation, but since it can only have extension shortcuts and can't be used as commands, well, would be nice to have some in the commander to do things without mouse or remembering what shortcut I assigned, typing is easier.

Non-existing commands/Shortcuts

  • New tab in specific group
  • Group all ungrouped tabs
  • Rename Group
  • Remove tab from group
  • Collapse and Expand all or specific tab groups.
  • Close all tabs not in current group
  • Close all ungrouped tabs
  • Merge two Groups
  • Save Group (when brave://flags/#tab-groups-save is enabled, which should be eventually default in Brave based on https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/35869)
  • Maybe even change the color of a group now I am suggesting commands.

Others:

  • Switch/Open profile
  • Discard other/background tabs (since active or foreground/visible tabs can't be discarded)

Existing functions but not as commands or shortcuts:

  • Bring all tabs to this window (one of the latest Brave features https://github.com/brave/brave-core/pull/21933 I find myself using it often)
  • Expand vertical tabs panel on mouseover when collapsed
  • Toggle Vertical tabs position (there is already one for sidebar)
  • Cycle through the most recently used tabs with Ctrl-Tab (sometimes this is needed so tab groups don't get expanded).
  • Display the back or forward buttons' History menu
  • Clear host cache (from brave://net-internals/#dns)

Existing shortcuts not as command:

  • Paste and go to $1 (this is a shortcut but not a command, There is a 'paste' command)
  • New Tor connection for this site

Have a good day!

Thanks heaps @TEMP-ad! These are some great ideas, I'm going to post a link to this issue in the community thread so people can find it.

Hey, coming here from the community thread. All the ideas mentioned in the issue are really desirable for me too. I'm using a combination of verticals tabs + tab groups and being able to do most of the work without the mouse (or remembering a bazillion shortcuts) is a real comfort to me.

Coming here from the community thread as well. I'd appreciarte a way to actually ungroup all tabs using a keyboard shortcut or a quick command.

Hey all, thanks for the interest - I've got a PR to add a bunch of group management commands https://github.com/brave/brave-core/pull/22488

I've created a sub issue so we can keep suggestions coming in this one

Other command that could be added is Manage on-device site data popup that controls brave://settings/content/siteData.

That popup is the one you get by View Site Information -> Cookies and site data -> Manage on-device site data. So getting a command that just makes it appear, would be nice.

The other command/Shortcut could be the link to brave://settings/content/siteData. With recent Chromium changes now it takes longer to get there. Now you have to go to Settings -> Privacy and security -> Site and Shields Settings -> then you scroll down to Additional content settings -> and then you find On-device site data, so being able to access the whole manager should be nice as well.

The reason for me to request this, in case anyone is wonder, is because since Brave has Ephemeral Storage there is a way to take advantage of it to be able to switch storages and then reload the page and get another storage, so for example, you can easily have 2 different account logged as long as you don't reload the page or close the window (which would clear the Ephemeral Storage after 30 seconds), or reload the page and get the other account and switch back and forth, in the same window without too much issues, kind of like a simple version of Firefox containers.

So the popup makes it really quick to switch because you even get the "reload" button after changing anything, and the settings page allows to remove and manage things better if necessary.
