Feature Request: Include option for users to automatically open bookmarks in new tab

Open Brave-Matt opened this issue 1 year ago • 10 comments

Description

Several users have requested the option to have the browser open bookmarks in a new tab automatically, instead of having to use the mouse-click wheel, right-click --> open in new tab or Ctrl/Cmd option. As far as I can tell, only Firefox allows you to do this but the setting isn't built in there, you need to access the config file in order to enable it:

+1 On this - it's a feature that Vivaldi has available as a configurable option

I support this request. This is one of these tiny QoL things that often infuriates you when you click without thinking or don't even have a middle button.

I support this request. This is one of these tiny QoL things that often infuriates you when you click without thinking or don't even have a middle button.

You can also use Ctrl + Click (CMD + Click on macOS) to open bookmarks in a new tab.

The point would be not to have to press buttons or grabbing with the left mouse button and dragging to the right...

I still don't understand why it's such a monumental task to add an option in the preferences so that the user can choose to open in a new tab or the current tab if something is selected from the bookmark bar

although I suppose since this has been a recurring theme for several years, I guess Brave core features prevent it from opening in a new tab...

Patiently (trying...) waiting,... I just lost 10 minutes of passport form data entry because I chose a bookmark from the bookmarks sidebar menu.... WHHHHYYYYY..... with how obsessed people are with having 2000434343 tabs open on their machine, how can not be seen as a logical enhancement. Nobody is trying to lose their current tab... if they wanted to, they'd be closing tabs properly upon finishing with them. The thing is... people never finish with a tab, which is why we see the reddit posts about ram consumption on browsers with 100+ tabs, etc, etc... so many real world instances of this just making so much sense... please for the love of the internet, implement this request....

Also, the Brave forum mod... stating this is "quite a niche feature".... get over yourself.

I think I went down the same road as you @vorwd incl. the niche feature and watching this since then.

Fully agree - an awesome ("core"?) QoL feature. BR

+1! Also please for typing into address / search bar. The current "solution" is awkward, a time waster, ergonomically insane for users who regularly work this way, and causes me frequent frustrations and extra work with Brave (hope that is not intended). For me this is the most serious flaw of Brave and I might be looking elsewhere after completing this test run.
