Description

Unable to complete https://apps.irs.gov/app/tax-withholding-estimator/about-you/ questionnaire. Will fail when trying to get to the next page. Suspect it's accessing a disabled Browser feature since it fails in ungoogled chromium also.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Open https://apps.irs.gov/app/tax-withholding-estimator/about-you/
2. From the questionnaire, Select Single then Yes on the next question, then I will be 65.. then Next
3. Get Attention Error (Yellow "!")

Actual result (After clicking on "Next")

Expected (Page "2" of the questionnaire)

Easily.

Desktop Brave version:

Version 1.31.74 Chromium: 94.0.4606.71 (Official Build) beta (64-bit)

Android Device details: (Reproducible on Brave Android also)

• Install type (ARM, x86): ARM
• Device type (Phone, Tablet, Phablet): Phone
• Android version: 10.0

Version/Channel Information:

• Can you reproduce this issue with the current release? Yes
• Can you reproduce this issue with the beta channel? Yes
• Can you reproduce this issue with the nightly channel? Yes

Other Additional Information:

• Does the issue resolve itself when disabling Brave Shields? No.
• Is the issue reproducible on the latest version of Chrome? No.

Miscellaneous Information:

Tested any anti-Brave scriptlets, no luck. It also Affects Ungoogled Chromium (89.0.4389.114) too, Suspect it's checking for a disabled Chromium feature common to both Brave and Ungoogled. Works in Firefox also. No privacy notification popups in any browser when going through this page.

Hmm, i cant reproduce on nightly. @ryanbr can you reproduce on 1.32?

Can still reproduce in Nightly Version 1.32.58 (Windows) in a new profile. Just tested mac, actually it worked on an older Nightly build then failed when I upgraded too 1.32.58 @pes10k

Bizarre! Im on 1.32.58 on Mac and can't reproduce, either in my main profile or an empty one… I wonder if @antonok-edm or @ShivanKaul or others could see if they can reproduce?

Went through a few Nightly builds, seeing if there were any regressions (windows). Nothing so far, all failed on the 2nd step.

Nightly v1.32.39  (FAILED)
Nightly v1.32.33  (FAILED)
Nightly v1.32.25  (FAILED)

Also disabled the VPN, and then changed the location of VPN too US. In case it's a geolocation issue (made no difference so far)

Here are some simpler/more recent repro steps:

STEPS TO REPRO:

1. Go to https://apps.irs.gov/app/tax-withholding-estimator/about-you/
2. Say “single” and then “Yes”
3. Press Next

Get stuck on Loading... screen.

Works fine with devtools open and cache disabled, interestingly.
