It appears that it will build during initial dependency install with `npm ci`. After that there's a script in package.json aka `npm run build`.

Same issue here, did you guys figure out a workaround? On my demo OpenShift cluster the RH Dev Spaces is dependent on https://github.com/devfile/devworkspace-operator but I don't see a helm chart...

FYI it looks like you have to use the chectl command line tool for now, that seems to install the DevWorkspace operator.
